Pilates is a series of exercises designed to help strengthen the deepest muscles of the abdomen and back, also known as the core. The exercises focus on balancing the strength of a muscle with it’s flexibility to surround the joints of the spine, hips and shoulders with stability and mobility equally in all directions. The exercises consist of small movements and few repetitions as the emphasis is on building the smaller muscles, or local stabilizers, as compared to the larger muscles which are used more for endurance. Build long, lean muscle while increasing endurance, flexibility and strength overall.
The repertoire is designed to take the body through a series of movements in all directions in sequence, balancing the workout between forward, backward, side to side and rotational movements to work the full range of motion of the spine.
The group classes are appropriate for any skill level, fitness level, or age. Simply bring a mat and your sense of humor, as laughter helps strengthen the abdominals, too.
